The Distribution of Photosynthetic Reactions in the Chloroplast Lamellar System
نویسندگان
چکیده
Plastocyanin is released from chloroplasts by sonication, by passing through the French-press, by extraction with detergents, by treatment with organic solvents and by freezing and thawing. No plastocyanin is liberated during osmotic shock of either class I or class II chloroplasts, or by extraction of class II chloroplasts with dilute solutions of EDTA. Under special conditions it is possible to separate grana and stroma lamellae, which retain plastocyanin. The distribution of plastocyanin between these membrane fractions parallels the distribution of photosystem I. The different reactivity of plastocyanin with various chloroplast membrane preparations is not always correlated to plastocyanin content. Other parameters, like pH, seem to influence the interaction of plastocyanin with the surface of the chloroplast membrane.

Photosynthetic reactions of chloroplasts with unusual structures.
Photosynthetic reactions of whole leaves and isolated chloroplasts from various mutants of Nicotiana tabacum have been correlated to the lamellar structure seen in electron micrographs of the chloroplasts. In this way it could be established that a fully active photosystem I can be associated with single unfolded thylakoids. The complete photosynthetic electron transport system including the ox...
متن کاملThe Distribution of Photosynthetic Reactions in the Chloroplast Lamellar System II. Latent ATPase, Proton Pump, Cyclic Phosphorylation and its Sensitivity towards Ammonia
Cyclic phosphorylation and latent ATPase follow the distribution of photosystem I in the chloroplast membrane. Both activities are found higher in stroma lamellae than in grana. The extent of proton uptake is found to be higher in the grana. Since this uptake depends on internal volume and buffer capacity besides proton pump activity, the distribution of the proton pump proper remains to be elu...
متن کاملOn the mechanism of photosynthetic oxygen reduction by isolated chloroplast lamellae.
Ferredoxin-stimulated photosynthetic oxygen reduction and concommitant decarboxylation of glyoxylate by chloroplast lamellar systems is inhibited by ascorbate but ferredoxin dependent NADP+-reduction is not. In the presence of low potential electron acceptors (AQ or MV) this influence of ascorbate on glyoxylate decarboxylation by chloroplast lamellar systems is no longer observed. Using the dia...

TlIhe plant sulfolipid, 6-sulfo-a-D-quinovopyranosyl-( 1 -1') -2'-,3'-di-O-acyl-D-glycerol. has been found in high concentrations in all and only in photosynthetic 02-producing organisms yet investigated (5, 6). Shibuya and Hase (21) recently demonstrated the concerted changes in chloroplast development and sulfolipid content in a green alga, Chlorcla protothecoides. It is increasingly apparent...
متن کاملCodon bias patterns in photosynthetic genes of halophytic grass Aeluropus littoralis
Codon bias refers to the differences in the frequency of occurrence of synonymous codons in coding DNA. Pattern of codon and optimum codon utilization is significantly different between the lives. This difference is due to the long term function of natural selection and evolution process. Genetics drift, mutation and regulation of gene expression are the main reasons for codon bias. In this stu...
